My name is Steffi Hidber Thierstein, born in 1973 and a passionate resident of Zurich-Seefeld. I spent the first twelve years of my life in Southern California, which might explain both my love of Mexican food and why I have unusually high self-esteem (that sometimes makes me wear way-too-bold prints). After finishing my education as a bookseller, I ran the English department of a bookstore on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse, where I once sold Billy Idol a copy of the «Playboy Book of Lingerie», and got winked at by him.
In the late 1990s, I did the first of multiple 180s, both professionally and geographically, by taking a job as a music editor and host at Switzerland’s first ‘young’ cable radio station, Radio 105 in Basel. There, I quickly advanced to the beloved title of «The Nation’s Worst Voice» and annoyed audiences all over the country. During this time, I also started writing for various magazines and advertising agencies, took a Thai cooking class, got the first of multiple tattoos, married my «Tigerprinz» and gave birth to two daughters.
Family life allowed me (and still does!) to indulge in my biggest passion, writing. Be it as a copywriter for nationally relevant clients, as a freelance journalist for various print and online media, and as a beauty expert on my (quite successful) Beauty-Online-Magazine Hey Pretty:
I’m known for writing stuff that people enjoy reading. And if you ask nicely, I won’t just write something fabulous for you, but I’ll also give you the recipe for the world’s best cheesecake.
